The blue triphylite on the freshly broken surface sharply contrasts with the surface exposed to years of weathering on the mine dump. The brown zone in the top right has altered to ferrisicklerite.

Johanson collection - 1942 Catalog No.: 1876 Notes: Phillip Morrill does report triphylite as occurring at the Ruggles Mine. Triphylite crystals have scaly flakes of fluorescent autunite on their surface. Uranium minerals such as autunite are common at the Ruggles Mine. Specimen contains many broken triphylite crystals, but only one essentially complete one.

Mine, Center Strafford, NH Specimen Size: 8 cm specimen. 4 cm triphylite-lithiophylite zone with rind of ferrisicklerite and heterosite Field Collected: Ron Bonney, purchased in 1982 by Gene Bearss Catalog No.: Notes: This "triphylite" has a more greener shade than most NH triphylite. An EDS analysis shows Mn and Fe content about equal. The EDS analyst opined that it was "slightly Mn dominant" so slightly on the lithiophylite side of the series.

This triphylite has a more brownish tint than some other NH triphylite occurrences.
TRIPHYLITE Chandlers Mill Mine, Newport, NH 4 mm pale-blue triphylite crystal TRIPHYLITE Chandlers Mill Mine, Newport, NH 6 mm pale-blue triphylite crystal TRIPHYLITE Chandlers Mill Mine, Newport, NH 4 mm pale-blue triphylite crystal	Species: TRIPHYLITE Locality: Chandlers Mill Mine, Newport, NH Specimen Size: 4 to 6 mm pale-blue triphylite crystals Field Collected: Unknown Catalog No.: u1816, u1817, u1818 Notes: I purchased a golf ball sized Chandlers Mill specimen from Ted Johnson (Yankee Minerals) at the 2015 Springfield, MA show that contained numerous 1 to 6 mm triphylite crystals. Most were broken, but I thought I might find a few mostly complete ones if I broke up the specimen. The Chandlers Mill Mine is a world class occurrence for triphylite crystals. The largest ones can approach one inch in size and can sell for many hundreds of dollars. I paid $10 for this specimen.

Smith Mine, Newport, NH Specimen Size: 4.5 cm specimen with dark blue massive triphylite and feldspar Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: 2025 Notes: A voucher specimen for tyriphylite at the G. F. Smith Mine. Note: The G. F. Smith Mine is to the north of Chandlers Mill Rd., between Chandlers Mill Rd. and the Sugar River. The more famous Chandlers Mill Mine is on the south side of Chandlers Mill road.

Groton, NH Specimen Size: 2.5 cm specimen with 1.5 cm altered triphylite crystal Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: 1608 Notes: Triphylite is likely altered to mostly ferrisicklerite, but visible small cavities have other alteration products. The yellow mineral may be stewartite. The Valencia Mine is the only NH locality where I have seen euhedral altered triphylite crystals with visible micro phosphates included. The Chandlers Mill Mine in Newport, NH has produced the "worlds best" triphylite crystals, but all examples from this locality are un-altered. I acknowledge the Palermo Mine in N. Groton has huge altered triphylite crystals, but most of these altered single crystals would fill the bed of a pick-up truck.
